As I write these lines, schools are closed by COVID-19 confinement and there is quite a widespread outcry among parents over the educational deficiencies of the Homeschooling model.

But is homeschooling not working? Or has homeschooling simply put an educational model in front of parents’ eyes that was broken before?

The key to educational success is not whether it is done online or in person. The key is always the pedagogical methodology followed.

Let me give our own Educational Robotics Homeschooling method. When we ask parents to describe our classes they say that “the classes are based on CHALLENGES, they are PRACTICAL, EFFECTIVE, FUN, MOTIVATING, PARTICIPATORY” and they say that their children “feel HAPPY, even EXULTANTS”.

Guess what our face-to-face classes are like?

Indeed, they are EQUAL TO ONLINE CLASSES.

It does not matter if the classes are PRESENTIAL OR HOMESCHOOLING. A bad class will continue to be, whatever it is online or in person.
A passive methodology, centered on the teacher, based on explanations and repetitions, a boring and demotivating methodology… it is a bad methodology. Always. In the classroom or online. Forever. The only difference is that in homeschooling the student can escape to YouTube and families can see what is happening.

The key to educational success is not whether the classes are online or face-to-face. What really MATTERS is PEDAGOGY.
